2015 ITE Intermountain Section Meeting

RSG Consultant, Kordel Braley, to present at the ITE Intermountain Section Meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming from May 15-16. His presentation will be on the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Traffic Studies Program. As Vice President of the ITE Utah Chapter, he will also present the annual ITE Utah Chapter Report on Friday.

ITE Northeastern District Annual Meeting

RSG’s Steve Gayle and David Grover will be presenting at the ITE Northeastern District Annual Meeting in Albany, NY. David’s presentation is titled “Technical and Outreach Innovations in the VT State Highway On-Road Bicycle Facilities Plan.” Steve will be participating in four sessions: “Resiliency Planning” (as presenter), “The Transportation Revolution: How It’s Changing Everything” (as roundtable panelist), “Collegiate Traffic Bowl” (as moderator), and Traffic Incident Management Workshop (as co-teacher). 2015 International Choice Modelling Conference

RSG consultants will lead six presentations at the 2015 International Choice Modelling Conference in Austin, TX from May 10-13. RSG is organizing and sponsoring the conference jointly with the Center for Transportation Research (CTR) at The University of Texas at Austin.

The event will bring together leading researchers and practitioners from across different areas of study, with presentations looking both at state-of-the-art methodology as well as innovative real world applications of choice models.

Sixth International Conference on Wind Turbine Noise

RSG Director, Eddie Duncan, will present this week at the Sixth International Conference on Wind Turbine Noise in Glasgow, Scotland. His presentation will cover methods for assessing background sound levels during post-construction compliance monitoring within a community.

The International Conference on Wind Turbine Noise is a biennial gathering sponsored by the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE). It provides an opportunity for all those with an interest in wind turbine noise, its generation, its prediction, its assessment, and its effects on people, to meet together to discuss common problems and solutions.

2015 AASHTO GIS for Transportation Symposium

RSG Analyst, Erich Rentz, has been attending the 2015 AASHTO GIS for Transportation Symposium this week in Des Moines, Iowa. At the conference he gave two presentations, “Developing Travelshed TAZ Using ArcGIS” and “Cumulative Non-Negative Elevation Gain.”

The annual GIS for Transportation Symposium is sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials; it is an opportunity for those in government and private industry who are interested in the use of GIS for transportation purposes to get together to share experiences, see state-of-art software, and learn more about the field.

2015 Moving Active Transportation to Higher Ground: Opportunities for Accelerating the Assessment of Health Impacts

RSG Senior Consultant, Michelle Lee, is attending the “Moving Active Transportation to Higher Ground” conference in Washington, DC this week.

The conference will focus on the evidence base as well as discussion of key tools and metrics for active transportation. Jointly sponsored and organized by ACSM and the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Science, the conference will bring together experts and constituents from transportation, urban planning, public health healthcare, and health economics to explore the practice of quantifying the public health outcomes of active transportation.

2015 George Wright Society Conference on Parks, Protected Areas, and Cultural Sites

RSG is excited for the upcoming 2015 George Wright Society Conference on Parks, Protected Areas, and Cultural Sites next week. RSG’s Steve Lawson, Brett Kiser, and Susie Irizarry will be in attendance.

Steve will lead a session on Sustainable Transportation for National Parks, act as a panelist discussing career paths in parks and protected areas management, and serve as a George Melendez Wright Scholarship mentor. Steve also will present a paper he co-authored with Brett as part of the session Conventional Transportation Planning in National Parks: Consequences and Alternatives. Susie will present both a paper titled, “A Novel Application of GPS and Sensor Data to Explore Micro-Level Site Displacement Among Yosemite Wilderness Visitors” and a poster on day hike trail choice decision making in Yosemite Wilderness.

VREF Conference on Urban Freight

RSG Senior Director, Peter Plumeau, will present at the VREF Conference on Urban Freight hosted at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Plumeau’s presentation is on March 5th and is titled “Urban Design: Making Freight and Logistics Work within the Urban Setting.” The conference is sponsored by the Volvo Research & Education Foundation (VREF); it will focus on two primary themes: (1) the importance of urban freight in long-term land use, city planning, and urban design, and (2) engaging relevant stakeholders to change behavior.

Traffic Incident Management for Responders Course

On February 26th, RSG Senior Consultant, Steven Gayle, will instruct the Traffic Incident Management for Responders course at Morrisville State College. This course was developed under the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) and is sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation, New York State Police, and the New York State Division of Homeland Security. Participants will include representatives of law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies; DOT; and towing and recovery companies.

Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Utah Chapter Annual Conference

RSG Transportation Engineer, Kordel Braley, and RSG Senior Consultant, Chad Worthen, are attending the ITE Utah Chapter Annual Seminar today at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Braley, as Vice President of the ITE Utah Chapter, is the conference chair. Worthen also served on the committee.

The ITE Utah Chapter Annual Seminar this year will focus on preparing to solve our transportation challenges by studying and understanding future trends.

Transforming Transportation Annual Conference

RSG Sr. Director, Peter Plumeau, will be presenting at the Transforming Transportation annual conference. His presentation is titled “Integrating Goods Movement Needs into Sustainable Urban Transportation Design.”

The Transforming Transportation annual conference is co-organized by EMBARQ, the sustainable urban transport arm of the World Resources Institute's (WRI) WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, and the World Bank. The event convenes leading transport and urban development experts from national and local government, finance institutions, foundations, civil society, and business to discuss the latest global trends, experiences, and best practices in sustainable transport.

This year’s conference will focus on Smart Cities for Shared Prosperity, and will examine how smart, connected urban mobility can improve quality of life in cities. Through panels, presentations, and networking opportunities, discussions at Transforming Transportation 2015 will address how the upcoming United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) impact urban transport, with an emphasis on data and technology, governance, and international financial flows.

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 94th Annual Meeting will be held in Washington, DC at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The information-packed program is expected to attract 12,000 transportation professionals from around the world to Washington, DC, January 11-15, 2015.
