RSG Director, David Saladino, presented alternative concept plans for traffic circulation and streetscaping at the public meeting in Dover, NH. The study is focusing on building consensus for innovative approaches to reconfiguring the streets, streetscapes, and public realm that will improve the safety and experience of downtown Dover.
RSG Co-founder, Dennis Meadows, will speak following a screening of Planetary Limits: A Last Call, a documentary based on Meadowsâ groundbreaking book Limits to Growth. The screening will take place April 1st at 5pm at Dartmouth College. The one-hour film will be followed by a reception and Q&A session.
A peer-reviewed journal article co-authored by RSG Director, Steve Lawson, RSG Senior Advisor, Peter Newman, and others, was published in the latest issue of Leisure Sciences. The article, titled âPhotograph Presentation Order and Range Effects in Visual-Based Outdoor Recreation Research,â explores potential biases in visual-based recreation research. Visual-based research refers to the use of computer-edited images and/or other visual representations to simulate conditions in recreation settings and is one of the most widely applied methods to assess the social acceptability of visitor experience and resource conditions.
The work of RSG Senior Advisor and Tuck School of Business professor, Scott Neslin, is featured in Tuckâs Winter Forum. The article titled âDoes Doing Good Mean Doing Well?â outlines Scott and colleaguesâ work to determine whether consumers' feelings about corporate social responsibility have caused them to be more loyal. The full research findings will be published in the International Journal of Research in Marketing.
RSG Senior Director, Peter Plumeau, was recently named to the national expert panel responsible for overseeing a new Transportation Research Board (TRB) project, âStrategies for Maintaining Air Service.â This project will explore strategies being implemented by smaller and medium-sized airports, their communities, and local businesses to reduce costs of services to carriers in order to maintain air service. The panel will help researchers identify and outline successful programs and activities that airports are undertaking to retain air service, including what is known or uncertain about their effectiveness over time.
Voters attending Hartland, Vermontâs Town Meeting recently voted to spend up to $450,000 to move forward with a plan proposed by RSG to realign the townâs main intersection, Hartland Three Corners. The proposed realignment plan will simplify the overall intersection, increase safety and mobility for pedestrians by adding crosswalks across all approaches, and create a significant increase in green space at the intersection. Final design will likely proceed in 2014, with construction starting as soon as 2015.

RSG is pleased to announce that Senior Director, Peter Plumeau, and Director, Dan Weinstein, have been appointed to the RSG Board of Directors. RSGâs Board of Directors is responsible for governance of the company, providing direction and oversight to management. This appointment marks the first term for both Mr. Plumeau and Mr. Weinstein.
A paper written by RSG Consultant, Jeff Keller has been awarded first place overall in the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Data Competition. Jeffâs paper titled, âUsing Random Forest Machine Learning to Predict Driver Behavior in a Dilemma Zone,â describes a means for applying the Random Forest machine learning method to vehicle operating environment data in order to identify drivers of behavior and to predict that behavior. These are desirable outcomes for policymakers who wish to recommend legislation regarding various distraction activities, such as texting or making phone calls, while driving. Automakers have also expressed interest in being able to predict, in real-time, events that may put the safety of vehicle occupants at risk. Jeff will present his findings on Sunday, January 12, at the annual TRB meeting in Washington, DC.

RSG Director, David Saladino, has been elected President of the New Hampshire Chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (NHITE). David has over fifteen years of experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, transportations facility design, and traffic operations, and has been with RSG for more than a decade. David has been a member of NHITE since 2003, and has served as the editor of the NHITE newsletter and website for over five years. Prior to being elected NHITE president, David most recently served as the chapterâs vice president, and he has also served as secretary/treasurer. David also chairs the Town of Enfieldâs Tax Increment Finance District Committee and serves on the Town of Enfieldâs Planning Board. He currently serves as vice-chair of the Hartford Development Corporation Board.
RSG is excited to welcome Michael Heaney to our staff as a Senior Consultant. Michael has spent the last decade founding and directing the Center for Park Management within the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). Michaelâs work at the Center for Park Management focused on developing and providing implementation support for strategic business plans in national parks, as well as regional and national offices of the National Park Service. Prior to relocating to the USA, Michael did strategic business planning and product development for more than 10 years with Marks & Spencer, a major European retailer. Michael will be working out of his home office in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire.
