APA National Conference

RSG Project Planner, Grace Wu, will present, “Streetscapes… in the Snow,” at the American Planning Association (APA) National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Grace’s presentation will highlight the specific challenges of transportation planning in New England – the snow, the plows, and all that salt. She will cover lessons learned after two years of working, walking, biking, and driving throughout New Hampshire and Vermont in all types of weather.

TRB’s Innovations in Travel Modeling Conference

RSG consultants will lead eight sessions at the 5th TRB Innovations in Travel Modeling Conference taking place in Baltimore, MD from April 27 to April 30th. The conference will allow researchers and practitioners to share knowledge and experiences on the latest developments in travel modeling and identify research and implementation challenges and issues associated with deploying cutting-edge computational methods. The conference will also review advances made possible by the integration of social, land-use, transportation supply, and technology into the modeling process. RSG is a patron sponsor of the conference.

New Product Marketing at University of Washington

The study is focusing on building consensus for innovative approaches to reconfiguring the streets, streetscapes, and public realm that will improve the safety and experience of downtown Dover.

Traffic Incident Management for Responders, Train-the-Trainer

RSG Senior Consultant, Steve Gayle, will be teaching “Traffic Incident Management for Responders, Train-the-Trainer” course on April 9th in Binghamton, NY. This national curriculum was developed under SHRP2 (Strategic Highway Research Program) and is designed to provide unified training for all traffic incident responders – law enforcement, fire, EMS, DOT, and towing/recovery. The goal is to improve on-scene operations to achieve quick clearance and responder safety.

Steve was on the SHRP2 oversight committee for the course development, and is now certified by New York State DOT and New York State Police as a trainer.

RSG Senior Director to Lead Guest Lecture at UVM

RSG Senior Director, Robert Chamberlin, will present, “Pedestrian Design,” as a guest lecturer to engineering students at the University of Vermont (UVM). The presentation will draw on local and national pedestrian design projects completed by RSG and give students greater insight into holistic design approaches. A particular focus will be the application of pedestrian capacity models implemented through New York City’s City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) procedures.

RSG Co-founder to Speak at Dartmouth Film Screening

RSG Co-founder, Dennis Meadows, will speak following a screening of Planetary Limits: A Last Call, a documentary based on Meadows’ groundbreaking book Limits to Growth. The screening will take place April 1st at 5pm at Dartmouth College. The one-hour film will be followed by a reception and Q&A session.

RSG Consultants to Judge Vermont State Science & Math Fair

Four RSG staff members, Senior Director, Nelson Whipple; Senior Consultant, Jeff Dumont; and Consultants, Jeff Keller and Katlin Gnojek, will be part of the judging panel at the 2014 Vermont State Science & Math Fair (VSSMF) held at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. The VSSMF is open to all middle and high school students in the state of Vermont and project topics span all areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. For the second year RSG will award $200 to the student whose project best identifies an opportunity to apply mathematics, science, or statistics to understand human behavior. This is RSG’s fifth year as a corporate sponsor of the VSSMF.

Two RSG presentations have been accepted for the upcoming Vermont Walk/Bike Summit in Burlington, Vermont. RSG Director David Saladino will present, “Enhancing Safety and Mobility for Bicyclists, Pedestrians, and Motorists: The Pearl/Prospect/Colchester Avenue Intersection Pilot Improvements,” and RSG Consultants Ben Swanson and Corey Mack will lead, “Measuring the Effectiveness of a Road Diet – Before & After Implementation.” Both presentations highlight RSG’s holistic approach to engineering design and commitment to improving roadway safety.

RSG Analyst Gives Guest Lecture at Concordia University

RSG Analyst, Tristan Cherry, returned to his alma mater, Concordia University in Montreal, to discuss RSG’s transportation market research techniques with undergraduate and graduate students in Dr. Zack Patterson’s Analyzing Choice class. Students in Dr. Patterson’s class spend the semester designing, implementing, and reporting on the results of a stated preference survey related to an environmental or transportation issue. Tristan’s presentation focused on RSG’s transportation market research work and provided students with real world examples of toll and transit market research practices.

RSG Director to Present at MIT

RSG Director, Dan Weinstein, will present, “Forecasting Adoption of Alternative Vehicle Powertrains Using Discrete Choice Methods,” at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on March 19th as part of the Transportation at MIT seminar series. Dan’s presentation will focus on discrete choice modeling techniques and how they can be used to help automotive manufacturers and suppliers quantify the trade-offs that consumers make between vehicle attributes.
