RSG Freight Work Featured in the News

RSG's work with the Capital District Transportation Committee on the future of freight in the Albany, NY area was featured in media. The article highlights that the amount of freight shipped through the area is projected to grow by 67 percent over the next 15 years. This projection is part of a larger effort RSG has led to craft a regional freight and goods movement plan, including freight-supportive projects, policies, and strategies to support the regionā€™s economic growth and quality of life. This is one of many freight-related studies RSG is involved in throughout the US.

RSG Sr. Consultant Appointed Vice Chair of ITE Strategic Initiatives Committee

RSG Senior Consultant, Steven Gayle, was recently appointed by ITE International President Paula Flores to serve on the ITE Strategic Initiatives Committee, and will serve as Vice Chair. This Committee is tasked with advising the ITE Board of Directors throughout 2016, devising priorities and creating strategic action plans to make ITE the organization of choice for transportation professionals. It will focus on programs that keep ITE on the leading edge of professional development, technical excellence, and advocacy.

Over 10,000 Downloads of RSGā€™s Software Package

Since its release in 2013, RSGā€™s open-source software package, RSGHB, has been downloaded over 10,000 times, across 113 countries. RSGHB, available on The Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN), is designed to estimate Hierarchical Bayesian (HB) models from choice-based conjoint data, allowing users to run sophisticated models, which until RSGHBā€™s release required significant custom programming.

RSGā€™s Jeff Dumont and Jeff Keller created and maintain RSGHB and have won two consecutive ā€œBest Posterā€ awards for RSGHB-related posters at the American Marketing Associationā€™s annual Advance Research Techniques Forum.

RSGHB currently averages 450 downloads a month with top downloading countries including the US (31% of downloads), Japan (10%), China (9%), Germany (4%), Spain (4%), India (4%). We are proud to see RSG improving models around the world!

2015 International Urban Freight (I-NUF) Conference

RSG Senior Director Peter Plumeau will be presenting at the 2015 International Urban Freight Conference in Long Beach, CA this week. His presentation is titled, ā€œUrban Design: Making Freight and Logistics Work within the Urban Settingā€ and he will also be moderating the panel, ā€œThe Imperative for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability–Impacts on the Freight System.ā€

RSG Senior Consultant Erica Wygonik is co-author on a presentation at the event as well, presented by Nathan Mayes and titled, ā€œModeling Vehicle Miles Traveled and Emissions Considerations for Goods Delivery Scenario Decisions.ā€

2015 Indiana MPO Conference

RSGā€™s Vince Bernardin, Steve Tuttle, and Steven Trevino are attending the 2015 Indiana MPO Conference in Muncie, Indiana from October 13-15. The conference is titled ā€œCreating Healthy Communities: Redefining Transportation for the 21st Century.ā€ This yearā€™s topics will focus on how Indiana metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) can help redefine transportation to create and support healthier, active communities. Renewable Energy 2015 (RE2015) Conference

RSG Senior Director, Ken Kaliski, to present this afternoon at the Renewable Energy (RE2015) conference in Burlington, Vermont. His presentation, titled ā€œA Sound Experience of Wind Energy in Vermont,ā€ discusses the history of wind turbine sound in Vermont, including project conditions, sound monitoring results, noise complaints, and future expectations.

RE2015 is the leading event for the renewable energy sectors in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Northern New York. The conference brings together key players in the clean energy sector and highlights current energy challenges, Vermontā€™s leadership role in the energy industry, and the steps needed to implement an integrated energy infrastructure. National Academy of Engineering Workshop – Engineering a Quieter America: Progress on Consumer and Industrial Product Noise Reduction

RSG Senior Consultant Karl Washburn was invited to present a paper titled, ā€œEngineering Quieter Off-Road Machinesā€ as part of the two-day workshop, ā€œEngineering a Quieter America: Progress on Consumer and Industrial Product Noise Reduction.ā€ The workshop was held in Washington, DC on October 6th and 7th and was sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

This was the third workshop in a series following NAEā€™s publication of ā€œTechnology for a Quieter Americaā€ in 2010. The NAE, which advises Congress and the Administration on policy regarding engineering, will publish the workshop transcript in 2016.

Air Quality Modeling and Public Health Workshop

RSG Director John Hinckley to present today at the Air Quality Modeling and Public Health Workshop in Albany, NY.

His presentation will discuss the air quality permitting work performed for a new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at SUNY ESF in Syracuse, NY. It will focus on how air dispersion modeling of CHP emissions was used to help design the project by identifying the stack height and emission controls needed to meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
