RSG Principal Ken Kaliski to Present on Community Tolerance Level Methods at ASA’s 190th Meeting

RSG Principal Ken Kaliski will present at the 190th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of the lecture session “Quantifying the differences between communities within a survey using the Community Tolerance Level methods.”

The presentation will explore how Community Tolerance Level methods can be used to compare noise tolerance across different groups within a single survey. Drawing on wind turbine social survey data, Ken will discuss how “communities” can be defined in multiple ways beyond geography, including compensation status, survey mode, proximity to new or older wind projects, and whether respondents moved in before or after turbines were erected. He will also share how these methods can help researchers and practitioners better understand noise annoyance, calculate community-level differences in tolerance, and apply decibel adjustments when predicting high annoyance.
