Michael McCarthy specializes in transportation planning and modeling, with experience developing, calibrating, and enhancing regional and statewide travel demand models. At RSG, he applies his expertise in data analysis, GIS, and programming to deliver data-driven insights that support planning and investment decisions for public agencies. His work often integrates passively collected data sources and refines model frameworks to better reflect local travel behavior and system performance.
Michael has contributed to projects across the United States using platforms such as TransCAD, PTV Visum, Cube, and Emme. His modeling efforts have supported scenario planning, long-range transportation plans, environmental impact statements, and other strategic transportation studies. His ability to blend technical rigor with practical application helps agencies plan with greater clarity and confidence.
Michael is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners and serves as chair of RSG’s internal Ownership Committee. Based in Chicago, he enjoys biking to work when the weather allows.
