Kordel is a leader in transportation planning and traffic engineering in Utah and manages RSG’s traffic engineering and transportation planning work in our Salt Lake City office. Throughout his 10 years in the industry, he has been an integral part of all facets of transportation engineering and planning studies across all modes of transportation, including traffic operations analysis, active transportation, transit, transportation master planning, and safety analysis.
Kordel has managed RSG’s efforts on several notable projects, including Provo Orem Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Traffic Study Support, South Utah County Active Transportation Plan, Salt Lake County Active Transportation Implementation Plan, and UDOT Continuous Count Station and Weigh-in-Motion Master Plan. His research in graduate school was on the relationship between access management and safety, and he has continued to work in traffic safety on several projects, including a recent research project tying travel demand models to safety forecasts. Kordel recently finished a six-year appointment to a municipal planning commission, which helped inform his understanding of the complex relationship between land use, urban design, and transportation. He has also taught several courses in transportation engineering at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
Outside of work, Kordel keeps busy with his wife and four children exploring the outdoors, visiting Disneyland, and participating in youth sports programs.
